AAC Health Department Advises Against Swimming this Weekend

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—Anne Arundel County Department of Health has issued a "Preemptive Advisory" in effect for June 7-9 cautioning that all county beaches are under a no swimming/no direct water contact advisory for at least 48 hours due to predicted elevated bacteria levels from rainwater runoff and increased health risks.

CBF and EPA Reach New Agreement to Reduce Pollution from Animal Operations

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) have reached a new agreement to reduce pollution from animal operations. This new agreement, which arises from the 2010 settlement of CBF's lawsuit, will provide additional certainty that the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint (the Bay Total Maximum Daily Load and State Watershed Implementation Plans or "WIPs") now in place will achieve its goal of reducing pollution throughout the six-state, 64,000 square-mile Bay region with full implementation by 2025.

Environmentalists Fear Stormwater Permit Proposal Might Reduce Openness

(Richmond Times-Dispatch) A proposal to revise the way Virginia regulates stormwater runoff at construction sites is drawing the wrath of environmentalists, who say the change would foster secrecy. At issue is a permit the state oversees to limit stormwater pollution during and after the construction of most housing developments, office parks and similar developments.

EPA, Chesapeake Bay Foundation Announce Agreement to Limit Cattle, Poultry Pollution into Bay

(Washington Post) The Chesapeake Bay Foundation and the Environmental Protection Agency announced an agreement Wednesday to ensure that dairy farms, poultry growers and other farm animal operations are on track to reduce pollution flowing into the bay. The foundation said the agreement is intended to ensure that the multi-state, EPA-led restoration of the Chesapeake Bay is achieved by 2025.
